Preventative care is the key to a healthy smile. Regular checkups allow us to treat issues before they become a problem. We try to schedule check-up and cleaning appointments every 6 months. Some patients might require more frequent intervals due to more advanced gum disease. Preventing dental disease starts at home with good oral hygiene and a balanced diet. It is continued in our office by the effort of our dentist and his staff to educate, restore and maintain your oral health. Preventive care helps avoid more serious and costly dental problems. We'll make sure your smile stays healthy and beautiful!
All teeth are different and accidents happen. Whether your teeth are crooked, chipped, damaged or if you've had mouth trauma or a toothache, we will always try to accommodate emergencies and painful situations into our daily schedule. Many times emergencies occur due to neglect and fear. We will never make you feel bad about this, but will try our best to take care of your problem with sympathy, patience and utmost care.
We pride our dental practice over the last 30 plus years on building trust and friendship with the many families that we have seen. From young married couples who bring in their first child for their first check-up, sons and daughters that bring in their aging parents for dentures, girlfriends that send in their boyfriends that never brush their teeth, neighbors referring a new neighbor who had just moved into town, or a coworker that has a toothache. We have forged many lasting relationships over the years. We have at this for so long that quite a few families have come in with four generations.
Our office usually are able to see children from 3 years of age and older. But we can give advise, education or referrals to parents of newborns to help prevent major dental problems until they are comfortable to be seen at our office. Our first dental visit usually consist of "counting teeth" to give them a good first experience. Fluoride treatments, sealants and good brushing habits are an integral part of prevention for children's teeth. However, if we feel the problem is too extensive or if the child is not comfortable, we can refer them to a pediatric dentist. Their comfort and safety is our main concern. Orthodontic needs are carefully monitor during regular check-up appointments. Our goal is to provide comprehensive dental health care as they grow to adulthood and beyond.
General Dentistry involves most procedures that will restore your teeth to their natural shape and function. It may involve
" bonded" fillings that are tooth color or traditional silver fillings. Different materials can be used depending on esthetics, strength and durability. If a tooth is cracked or the damage is too extensive, a crown might be needed to give it a stronger full coverage. Your dentist will go over the many options with you.
Cosmetic Dentistry can range from simply whitening your teeth to working with an orthodontist to realign your whole dentition.
We can change out old silver fillings and replace them with tooth color fillings. Chip teeth can be restored and gaps between teeth can be closed. Whatever is your desire, your dentist can give you suggestions on how to give you a better and healthier smile.
If you are missing just one, some or all of your teeth, it is important to replace them. If not, it can lead to further loss of other teeth, inhibit the way you bite and chew and even change your appearance and facial symmetry. Prosthetic dentistry can restore your teeth with bridges that are cemented permanently or partial dentures that a removable. As a last resort, sometimes full upper and lower dentures can be made or remade to replace all of your teeth. Usually it is a combination of all these methods. Your dentist can give you options that are best for you.
Gum disease is the chronic bacterial infection of the gums that surround your teeth. In its initial stages, it can be painless, cause bad breath and bleeding gums. It is the number one cause of tooth loss in adults. It has been proven to cause more serious issues such as heart problems and systemic infections if not treated. Gum disease is preventable and treatable. If diagnosed early, it might just involve a series of deep scaling or cleaning. More advanced cases might involve gum surgery or a referral to a gum specialist called a periodontist. It is very important to follow up gum treatment with excellent home care and frequent and regular maintenance with the dentist. Our goal is to help you keep as many of your teeth for as long as we can to avoid the inconvenience and expense of bridges, dentures and implants. We always say "Just floss the ones you want to keep".
The dreaded root canal can be equated to " childbirth" for some women and a "hang nail" to most grown men. It is usually caused by an ignored or un- diagnosed cavity that has gotten so deep that it has reach the nerve inside your tooth. It can also be caused by old fillings that were too deep or has leakage. It might start as a sensitivity to hot, cold or sweets. But if you wait too long, it will eventually give you a toothache. A root canal involves taking out the nerve tissue inside your tooth and sealing the canals. After a root canal, the tooth will need to be restored with a post and filling and covered with a crown for maximum strength. To avoid root canals, get regular check-ups to find and fix cavities while they are small. If your tooth is sensitive, check with the dentist as soon as possible. Sometimes, root canals will need to be referred to a specialist called an endodontist.
There will be occasions when we will need to extract a tooth. It could be a tooth that is cracked or cavity too big to restore. An orthodontist might request us to take out teeth to make room to realign your teeth. Wisdom teeth might need extractions if they are inflamed or impacted. Baby teeth might need an extra nudge. Whatever the reason, it is usually the last resort. Complicated cases or patients who require extra sedation can be referred to an Oral Surgeon.
Dental Implants have been available for quite a while now. Although they might be expensive, sometimes they are the best option to replace missing teeth or an alternative to ill fitting removable dentures. Your general dentist will usually work with an Oral Surgeon that will place the implant into the your jaw bone. After waiting several months for the implant to heal, the general dentist will make the replacement tooth that will attach to the implant. Here is a link to the process
